Tesfaye Weldemedhin is the Founder and Director of Utopia Learning Centre.
He is the first Cambridge Delta-qualified English language teacher and British Council accredited professional skills trainer in Ethiopia.
He has delivered English and Professional Skills courses both face-to-face and online in one-to-one and group contexts from primary to tertiary levels, to young and adult learners as well as to individual and corporate clients since 2007.
During his role with British Council Ethiopia from May 2016 through June 2022, he received high performance evaluation ratings which led to several opportunities to learn and develop as a teacher, trainer, and leader. He undertook numerous tasks including organising events, chairing the local staff association, serving as Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and Teaching Centre Management System (TCMS) Champion, conducting Facebook-live webinars, etc. Moreover, he was also the Adult Courses Lead in the Teaching Centre.
Before his British Council role, he was instrumental in the founding of the English Language Improvement Centre (ELIC) at Hawassa College of Teacher Education. During my five-year stay, the centre was recognised as a Centre of Excellence for four consecutive years by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education following its outstanding innovative and successful implementation of English language programmes.
He then served as the Language and Literacy Project Consultant for Link Community Development for 20 months where he worked with stakeholders to improve the language and literacy of primary school children.
His professional interests include teaching and training, leadership, soft skills and professional skills, monitoring and evaluation, teacher training, journalism, event organising, storytelling, visual arts, public speaking, debating, writing plays, and acting. He is generally creative, versatile, and diligent.
